THE STRUCTURE OF THE SCHOOL
St. Gabriel's has two Departments: Infants (ages 3-7) and Juniors (ages 7-11).
The school consists of seventeen classes. There are two classes in each age group except for the Nursery. This is a single unit of 30 children aged 3-4 years. In addition there are three small classes for children who need extra learning support. There is one learning support Teacher in the infants, two full time classes and two learning support Teachers in the juniors.
Classes usually range in size, between 25 and 28 children. Each class in the Infant Department is taught by a Teacher and a Teaching assistant. The Nursery students have a Teacher, two Teaching Assistants and a Class Room Assistant. The Junior Department classes are each taught by one Teacher.
A senior member of Staff is in charge of each Department and assists the Principal in the administration of the School.
THE SCHOOL DAY
School begins at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 2.30 p.m. Typical hours are as follows:
There are two breaks: 1st break from 10:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and 2nd break from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.
THE ACADEMIC YEAR
The academic year is divided into THREE TERMS.
On average, there are three (3) weeks of vacation at Christmas and Easter and eight (8) weeks at Summer.
There are paid supervisors before school in each Department from 7:30 a.m. â€“ 8:30 a.m. Teachers are on duty until 3:00 p.m. each afternoon. The paid supervisors take over until 5:00 p.m. Children collected after 3:00 p.m. must be signed out by a parent/guardian.
All breaks are supervised by teachers, teaching assistants, paid supervisors and a security guard.
